Durres- the last stop of the exhibition “The Fates of the Albanian Survivors in Mauthausen”

The last stop of the exhibition “The Fates of the Albanian Survivors in Mauthausen” was the city of Durrës, from which a considerable number of people were captivated by the Nazis and ended up in the Mauthausen Camp in Austria. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by the ministry, Mrs. Milva Ekonomi, mayor of Durrës, Mrs. Emiriana Sako, director of the National Historical Museum Dorian Koçi and personalities of the city.

Guests had the chance visiting the exhibition explained by the historian of the project Mr. Koci and then the director of DMO Albania, Mrs. Kushova greeted the guests and gave the word to the minister and the deputy mayor of Durres. After the speech of the special guests, participants had the opportunity to watch the documentary of the 8 survival stories at the Mauthausen Camp. The relatives of the survivors and those who suffered in the Mauthuasen camp were also present at the ceremony. Petraq Konduri, the son of Stefan Konduri (one of the survivors) tells through emotions the memories of his father and that he feels grateful for all the work and shedding light on these painful stories that everyone should know.

Ahmet Cekaj, was one of the 8 survivors, whose story was told through his son Faslli who was also present at the exhibition ceremony. All participants finally saw a part of the documentary, which is also available on YouTube, click here.

The exhibition was visited by students & pupils from different schools in Durrës, accompanied by their teachers, who informed them that soon several competitions will be organized within the theme of the project.

The director of DMO Albania, Mrs. Kushova announced that the next step of this project is the preparation of these stories for the school curricula, which will be prepared by the historian Marenglen Kasmi.
